Repair symptoms

Tell us what changed

A few observations help us decide where to begin the service check.

01

Suction dropped everywhere

A full bag, dirty filter, hose restriction, tubing leak, clog, or power-unit problem may be involved.

02

One inlet behaves differently

Tell us which inlet is affected and whether the others still have normal suction.

03

The unit starts and stops

Mention heat, unusual noise, or a change in the way the motor runs.

04

You inherited an unfamiliar system

A photo of the power unit and its label can help us identify it, even if you have never used it.

Good to know

How do you find the cause of a central vacuum problem?

Vac Shack checks the collection container or filter, hose, inlets, controls, tubing, and power unit. We compare airflow and operation across the system to locate the fault. House calls cover Jefferson County, St. Louis County, Metro East, Rolla, and St. James. Call with your address and symptoms.

Repair options

We check the system before recommending a replacement

An older unit may need a repair part while its tubing and inlets remain usable. We look at the fault, the condition of the other components, and the parts we can obtain.

If repair is impractical, we can discuss a replacement power unit and check which existing connections and accessories will work with it.

  • Identify the brand and model
  • Check the failed component
  • Inspect the rest of the system
  • Confirm parts and compatibility
  • Explain repair and replacement options

Repair or replacement

Compare the work your system needs

Component repair

Keep serviceable equipment

A repair may suit a system with an identifiable fault and other components in sound condition.

  • A replacement part is available
  • The tubing and connections remain usable
  • The repair addresses the cause of the problem

Replacement or upgrade

Change a failed or worn component

A power unit, hose, inlet, or control may need replacement when repair parts or the condition of the component limit the options.

  • Check compatibility with existing tubing
  • Review hose and inlet connections
  • Discuss VACUFLO and MD replacement equipment

Can you replace a broken inlet valve?

Yes. We can replace it at your home, or you can buy one at our shop. We stock common styles and colors and can special-order others.
